HVAC Mechanic ASRC Federal

The HVAC Technician repairs, overhauls, maintains, and services commercial, industrial, and residential heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and refrigeration units.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Repair, overhaul, maintain, and service industrial and residential heating, ventilating, hydronic, and air conditioning systems and refrigeration units.
  • Clean, service, and repair mechanical room equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and locate malfunctions, diagnose problems, and determine repairs.
  • Observes and interprets readings on gauges, meters, and charts that register various aspects of HVAC operations.
  • Repair or replace compressors and components, electric motors, fans, belts, and pulleys.
  • Service and repair evaporators, condensers, and receivers.
  • Repack valves, lubricates moving parts, replaces filters and cleans coils as needed.
  • Recover, track, and manage refrigerants and all ozone-depleting chemicals (ODCs) under EPA Regulations.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace thermostats, pressure stays, relays, switches, and electrical wiring.
  • Repairs components within a system to include transformers, motors, electrodes, solenoids, rheostats, and aqua stats.
  • Maintain logs and equipment inventories.
  • Record various aspects of HVAC systems and their operations.
  • Treating HVAC systems with chemicals and analyzing for such things as acidity, causticity, and alkalinity following prescribed methods
  • Install or repair water, steam, or other types of piping associated with heating and Hot/Cold domestic Water Systems.
  • Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape using cutting and bending equipment and tools; cuts and threads pipe using machine threading or hand threading equipment.
  • Bending and forming sheet metal for ductwork, grease pans, etc.
  • Paint and insulate HVAC mechanical rooms and distribution equipment.
  • Work from blueprints, drawings, models and/or verbal and written instructions
  • Inspect work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, policies, and regulations.
  • Ensureing proper housekeeping of job site, mechanical rooms, and shops. Ensures that equipment, storage, and maintenance areas are clean, safe, and serviceable conditions.
  • Respond to call-outs after normal working hours, as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by Management (or Designated Representative).

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • EPA Sect. 608 Universal CFC Handling Certification or ability to maintain within 90 days of start date.
  • Demonstrated HVAC mechanical technical hands-on experience
  • Must be able to lift fifty (50) lbs regularly.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
  • Ability to understand, speak, read, and write English.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance
